# What to Do About a Pet Owner’s Security Camera

Pet Owners may have security cameras installed in their homes for **safety, monitoring their pets, or general security reasons**. As a Pet Sitter, it’s important to know your rights, how to communicate with the Owner about cameras, and what to do if you feel uncomfortable with their placement.

## **Instructions**

### **Understand the Owner’s Rights**

* Pet Owners **can** have security cameras inside and outside their property.
* Cameras must **not** be placed in private areas such as bathrooms or the bedroom where the Sitter is staying.
* Hidden cameras in private spaces are **not allowed** and must be disclosed.

### **Ask About Cameras Before Accepting a Booking**

* During the **Meet & Greet** or before confirming the booking, ask the Owner:
  * **Do you have security cameras inside the house?**
  * **Where are they located?**
  * **Are they for pet monitoring or general home security?**
* Having this conversation upfront helps prevent misunderstandings later.

### **What to Do If You Discover an Undisclosed Camera Indoor in a Private Space**

* If you find a camera **that was not disclosed and is placed in a private space**, contact the Owner and ask about it.
* You may cover it while seeking clarification from the Pet Owner.

  Note: DO NOT unplug or make changes in the camera.

### **Discuss Privacy Concerns with the Owner**

* If a camera is in a **shared living space**, you can request that it be covered or turned off while you are in the home.
* If cameras are in **private spaces**, such as a guest bedroom, politely inform the Owner that this is a privacy concern.
