# How Do Seasonal Surcharges Work?

The **Seasonal Surcharge** feature allows you to automatically add a percentage-based increase to your service rates during peak periods like **Christmas, Easter, and school holidays**. It’s a great way to reflect increased demand and ensure your time is fairly compensated.

## How It Works

Seasonal surcharges are **added on top of your base rate**, not in place of it.

**Formula:**
Seasonal Rate = Standard Daily Rate + Seasonal Surcharge %

**Example:**
$50 daily rate + 10% surcharge = $55 total rate

You can choose to apply a **5%, 10%, 15%, or 20%** surcharge to your services.

## How to Enable It


1. Go to **‘Services & Rates’** in your profile.
2. Select the service(s) you'd like to apply the surcharge to.
3. Choose your desired percentage.
4. Save your changes.

Once enabled, the surcharge is automatically applied to bookings that fall within the predefined seasonal periods.

## What You Need to Know

#### Can I test it first?

✅ Yes! You can try it out and adjust or remove it anytime in your profile settings.

#### Can I opt out of certain periods?

✅ Absolutely. You can choose **which seasonal dates** you'd like to apply the surcharge for. If you don’t want it applied during, say, school holidays — just opt out for that timeframe.

#### What percentage should I set?

We recommend starting small (e.g., 5–10%) and adjusting based on your experience and customer feedback. You’re always in control and can update it as needed.

#### Does it apply per booking or per pet?

The surcharge applies **only to the first pet** in each booking — this ensures fairness for both you and the Pet Owner.

#### Will Owners see this as a separate fee?

No. The surcharge is **built into your displayed price** during that time and is **not itemised** separately for the Owner.

#### I already change my rates manually — do I still need this?

Not at all. This feature simply **automates rate changes** for peak periods. If you prefer to adjust manually, you’re welcome to continue doing so.
