# Help, There's An Emergency! (Pet is Sick / Injured)

When a pet becomes ill or injured, acting quickly is crucial to ensure their safety. Follow these steps to handle the situation effectively and maintain communication with the pet owner.

## **Instructions**


1. **Contact the Owner**
2. **Obtain Permission**
3. **Visit the Veterinarian**
   * Take the pet to their preferred vet or the nearest veterinary clinic.
   * If there’s no preferred vet, call Pawssum at 1300 343 580 for mobile veterinary services available in many capital cities.
4. **Notify Mad Paws**
   * Contact Mad Paws during business hours at 02 8046 6536:
     * Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM AEST
     * Saturday: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM AEST
   * Alternatively, email [trust@madpaws.com.au](mailto:service@madpaws.com.au) with “EMERGENCY” in the subject line. Provide details of the incident, actions taken, and the pet’s current condition.
5. **Key Information to Share**
   * **Existing Medical Conditions** : Allergies or any chronic illnesses.
   * **Past Serious Injuries** : Previous injuries or traumas.
   * **Current Heat Status** : If the pet is in heat.
   * **Toilet Training Status** : Whether the pet is toilet trained.
   * **Behavioural Tendencies** : Traits like jumping fences, digging, or being an escape artist.
